Louisiana has an extremely weak and ineffectual fertility mandate. Basically, the state only requires that insurers not exclude coverage for “correctable medical conditions that result in infertility.” And employers who are self-insured (typically large companies that employ many people) are exempt from the requirements of this feeble mandate. Insurers are not required to cover fertility medications, IVF, or any other assisted reproductive technique.
